Top 10 90s Kid Show Themes
Inspired by this list, I reflected back on my childhood. I was born in 1987, too late to be aware of the 80s. I remember my Friday nights being filled with TGIF's Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Snick's line up. In extended day, we would watch Spiderman and The X-Men. I watched Toonami when I got home from school. Yes, I caught old shows like Thundercats but I never heard of Fraggle Rock until I started working at a movie store. Also, my parents were too cheap to pay for Disney so I never got any of those shows.
I had anime. I had Steven Spielberg's cartoons. I had PBS.
And, man, there was nothing better.
10. Pinky and the Brain
One is a genius, the other insane.
9. The X-Men
Something the movies are sorely lacking.
8. Beetlejuice
Inspiring potential goth kids everywhere.
7. Power Rangers
I don't care what anyone says, Netflix putting the Power Rangers on instant streaming is the best thing that's happened all year.
Note: because the Power Rangers don't know when to stop, this video includes a lot of the themes, not just Mighty Morphing's.
6. Pokemon
I had a copy of NSync covering this song. There was a point in my life that I could do the Pokemon Rap at the end. With all 150 Pokemon.
Also, please consider Pokemon a stand in for all the other anime's that could have been on here (such as Dragon Ball Z or Sailor Moon). Pokemon's theme is better than the rest of them and I don't want this to be too anime heavy.
5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
I know this one sits on the edge of the 80s and 90s but, you know, just appease me for the heros in a half-shell.
4. Bill Nye the Science Guy
They still use Bill in middle school classrooms. My students look at me weird when I start singing the theme to them.
3. Freakazoid
Reminder: don't say Candle Jack.
2. Captain Planet
Looting and polluting is not the way.
1. Animaniacs
That's the show's namey.
Man, this list could have been so much longer. I always loved the intros for the Gargoyles and the Powerpuff Girls and Recess. You know I still get the Pepper Ann theme song stuck in my head? The themes for Bobby's World and Rugrats were pretty memorable.
I always liked the Johnny Quest theme, too. And, of course, the Spider-Man theme!
I picked X-men over Spiderman because I liked their theme better, just like I did with Pokemon over Sailor Moon. But trust me, I realized as soon as I started to browse youtube that this list could have been one of those epic 20 item lists. I would have liked Wishbone on there. Spiderman. Batman. Tiny Toons. Rocko's Modern Life. Doug. All That. There's a ton of them. I think I'll reserve that for just a basic 'Top whatever 90s Children TV Shows" so I don't have to dig up all the youtube videos. :)
Ah, Wishbone. I loved watching that show. I also like DW's, Darkwing Duck, theme.
This is a nice list, though.
This was an extremely catchy tune. However, there was one show that I was always singing along to when i was a kid. TOP CAT!!! The indisputable leader of the gang... He's the boss, he'sthe pip, he's teh championship. He's the most tip top... TOP CAT!.
Couldnt control myself there lol. Nice idea for a list.
